Whether you’re booking a flight or returning an online purchase, so many of our day-to-day experiences now involve virtual “agents” that act as AI-powered concierges, helping us cross items off our to-do lists faster than ever.

For those of us who work with technology, AI-powered assistants can make it easier to develop code, analyze data, and answer urgent questions with greater speed and confidence. That means technologies that once required specialized expertise are becoming more accessible to a much broader audience, and mathematical optimization is no exception.

For decades, mathematical optimization has been the technology leading organizations trust to solve their most complex decision problems—from designing supply chains and managing energy systems to allocating financial resources and scheduling flight crews.

Yet despite its tremendous value, optimization has traditionally had a high barrier to entry.  Translating a business challenge into a mathematical model can be intimidating, especially for users who are relatively new to optimization.

But today, generative AI is helping to tear down many of those barriers.

Optimize smarter

The new Gurobi Intelligence Hub brings together three AI-powered optimization agents designed to streamline the optimization lifecycle.

But rather than acting as generic AI assistants, the Hub's specialized agents provide guided workflows that help users build, understand, troubleshoot, and interact with optimization models more effectively.

Meet the agents

The Modeler: From business problem to production-quality model

One of the most challenging aspects of optimization is taking a real-world business problem and translating it into a mathematical model.

The Modeler helps users navigate that process through structured, guided workflows. Rather than jumping directly into model development, the Modeler works iteratively with users to refine requirements, validate assumptions, and develop acceptance tests.

With the Modeler, users can not only develop models faster but have confidence that the resulting model accurately reflects their business problem.

By encouraging users to think through objectives, constraints, and success criteria early in the process, the Modeler supports the creation of production-quality optimization models that are grounded in real business needs.

The Modeler is currently a beta feature; its capabilities are available for use and feedback, with additional improvements planned over time.

The Explainer: Turning complexity into clarity

Building a model is only part of the challenge. Users must also understand how their models behave and why certain results occur, especially in highly regulated industries like financial services, power and utilities, and the public sector.

The Explainer helps bridge that gap. By combining Gurobi's analytical capabilities with business context, the Explainer enables users to interpret model instances more effectively. Users can investigate solutions, understand model behavior through natural-language interactions, and diagnose infeasibility issues more efficiently.

For both new and experienced practitioners, this means spending less time deciphering results and more time maximizing impact. The Explainer helps make optimization more transparent, empowering users to better understand the decisions their models produce.

The Explainer is currently an experimental feature; its capabilities are available for users to explore and evaluate, but may change significantly as development continues.

Gurobot: Optimization expertise at your fingertips

Since its formal launch in 2025, Gurobot has helped users quickly access optimization guidance, best practices, troubleshooting assistance, and product information.

Now housed under the Gurobi Intelligence Hub, Gurobot continues to provide users with a convenient starting point for answering questions and overcoming obstacles.

Optimization for all

The future of optimization isn't just about solving harder problems. It’s also about enabling more people to solve them.
