A Mixed-Integer Optimization Approach for Integrated Planning and Scheduling in LNG Industry
The challenging current business environment of diminishing demand for LNG (liquefied natural gas) due to the energy transition has called for increased integration along its value chain. This paper describes an optimization approach for planning and scheduling for the entire spectrum of upstream production, midstream liquefaction, and downstream distribution of a portfolio company in the LNG industry. We apply advanced analytics centering around mixed-integer linear and nonlinear programming supported with state-of-the-art database and cloud computing technologies to realize significant value through automation and digitalization. The model formulation with underlying framework and methodology are extendable and amenable to scaling, customization, and acceleration to support the company’s business transformation effort in a robust and sustainable manner.
Dr. Khor Cheng Seong
Manager, Data Science, Group Technology & Commercialization, PETRONAS Digital
