Optimizing the Energy Future: From Ambition to Action |
Frank Haeger, Director of Energy, Gurobi Optimization
The UAE’s bold energy goals—Net Zero by 2050, 60% clean electricity by 2035, and a 15 million ton hydrogen target—are globally ambitious, realizing them requires navigating enormous complexity.
In this keynote, Frank Häger explores how mathematical optimization is becoming the strategic infrastructure behind successful energy transitions worldwide. Drawing from global and regional momentum, Frank demonstrates how optimization transforms massive data and interconnected challenges into actionable, predictive decisions.
From national planning to real-time operations, this session reveals how leaders across the Middle East can move from vision to velocity—one optimal decision at a time.

Building Trust in Decision Support: Explaining Optimization Solutions |
Lennart Lahrs, Technical Account Manager, Gurobi
Optimization-based decision support systems often struggle to gain acceptance despite their potential. User trust and clear understanding are crucial for their success. This talk provides practical strategies to build trust through transparent communication, intuitive presentation, and solution interpretability. We discuss user-driven actions, such as setting clear expectations, stakeholder involvement, and clear solution communication. Additionally, we showcase Gurobi solver features—including solution pools, sensitivity analysis, and feasibility relaxation—that help users understand optimization outcomes more deeply. The talk communicates actionable ways to improve transparency, foster trust, and successfully integrate optimization solutions into real-world decision-making. |

Peace of Mind with Optimally Balanced Preventive Maintenance Schedules
|
Vijay Patil, Associate Director of OR and AI, ORMAE, India
Rahul Swant, Senior OR scientist, ORMAE, India)
Preventive maintenance is important in the oil and gas industry due to the high-risk environment, complex and expensive assets, and stringent regulatory requirements.By having a good preventive maintenance plan, balanced activity schedule that is consistently executed, oil and gas companies can significantly enhance safety, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure regulatory compliance in their complex and demanding environment.
In this session, we talk about annual load balancing, also known as load smoothing math models, powered by GUROBI. Load smoothing a policy to distribute maintenance workload more evenly throughout the year. Benefit of this approach is reduced peak demands and optimal resource utilization. This is achieved by shifting tasks or activities from periods of high demand to periods of lower demand. Application was developed using GUROBI solver and deployed reducing 2 months of manual planning efforts for multiple work centres to just 1 day. Join us to understand how you can achieve peace of mind thanks for balanced maintenance activity schedule generated by GUROBI solver.
