09:45am – 10:30am Keynote: Optimization in Accountable Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Following the rapid advancements in deep learning and generative AI, numerous companies are exploring roadmaps for the adoption of AI technologies. However, a persistent challenge remains: how to guarantee the reliability of AI’s outcomes. This issue is especially critical in sectors such as healthcare and finance, where the consequences of operational errors can be significant. In these areas, the need for accountable AI technology—characterized by its interpretability, explainability, fairness, and verifiability—is paramount. This discussion will encompass both academic research findings and real-world examples of industry applications.
Prof. Kim Kee-Eung
Graduate of AI, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
10:30am – 11:00am Morning Tea Break
11:00am – 11:30am Gurobi Optimization Update #
This presentation will give an overview of Gurobi Optimization, an update on the global industry trends, and customer use cases.
Juan-Carlos Mani
Senior Vice President – Sales, Gurobi Optimization
11:30am – 12:00pm From Complexity to Clarity: Transforming Supply Chain Planning with Generative AI and Gurobi #
As supply chain solutions become more complex, decision-makers demand rapid insights from data visualizations. Enter Generative AI, a solution bridging the gap allowing us to swiftly generate dashboards and scenarios from natural language prompts. Coupled with seamless interfacing with Gurobi Optimization technology, we will demonstrate how this powerful combination simplifies and accelerates supply chain planning, fostering interactivity and accessibility like never before.
Ajay Arn
Senior Manager, Bain & Company
12:00pm – 1:00pm Networking Lunch
1:00pm – 1:30pm Latest Enhancement in Gurobi 11.0
This presentation will give an overview of what’s new in our latest Gurobi 11.0 release. We’ll talk about performance improvements to Gurobi’s core algorithms, as well as new features for supporting nonlinear functions (polynomials, power functions, logs and exponentials, and trigonometric functions). These new nonlinear capabilities enhance our existing piecewise-linear approximation support (i.e., dynamic approximations to nonlinear functions) from version 10.0 – resulting in more accurate results than a static approximation in less time.
Dr. Han Chung-Kyun
Technical Account Manager, Gurobi Optimization
1:30pm – 2:00pm Successes with Gurobi’s Unique Features and Expert Insights #
In addition to its industry-leading solver speed, Gurobi has many unique features that are essential for solving optimization problems in the real world. In this presentation, we will introduce a number of these features, such as multi-objectives, the No-Relaxation heuristic, and bilinear constraints, and showcase some customer stories that demonstrate the tangible benefits of utilising these techniques successfully. We will also highlight the pivotal role of the Gurobi Expert Team in enabling organisations to use the Gurobi solver to its full potential.
Dr. Steven Edwards
APAC Lead, Technical Account Manager, Gurobi Optimization
2:00pm – 2:30pm Partner Presentation – Company Introduction and Experiences Sharing

Dr. Hwang Seon-Min
Managing Director, BI Matrix

2:30pm – 2:50pm Afternoon Tea Break
2:50pm – 3:20pm Public Transport Demand Optimization – Interface with Agent based model, LinTim and Gurobi
In the field of transportation demand analysis, optimization methods for designing transportation networks and assigning traffic were established over 80 years ago and are still employed today. However, given the complexity of human movement patterns, there has been a recent surge in research on alternative optimization techniques, notably agent-based modeling. Traditional public transportation network design solves problems using open-source software like LinTim, which integrates the widely used Gurobi solver, and these solutions are then utilized as input for agent-based models that account for the travel behaviors of individual public transit users. This blending of traditional and modern approaches in research offers a novel methodology for solving public transportation optimization issues. It holds significant applicability in the planning and evaluation of services within the public domain, such as for railway and bus operators.
Dr. Kim Chan Sung
Sr. Research Fellow, Korea Transport Institute
3:20pm – 3:50pm Changes in Korea Power Market and Emergence of Optimization Challenges
South Korea’s electricity market has successful maintained a high-quality power supply under government leadership. However, the issue of output limitations in Jeju Island has highlighted the ongoing need for technical and policy measures to ensure the system’s stable operation. In this presentation, Lee Jung Bae will introduce optimization-related issues from the output restrictions in Jeju due to the Distributed Act, which will be fully implemented this year. This presentation will also discuss an agenda on the potential system-related risks and their mitigation strategies that could arise in the future.
Lee Jung Bae
Manager, KEI Consulting
3:50pm – 4:20pm Enhancing V2G with MILP: A Global Research Overview
The surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption amplifies the role of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) systems in ensuring grid stability and integrating renewable energy. This overview highlights the role of Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) in refining V2G functionalities, referencing a range of studies, including the impactful research by Betancourt-Torcat et al. (2019). MILP’s effectiveness in managing EV charging/discharging schedules, enhancing grid demand predictions, and promoting renewable energy use is underscored. By compiling insights from global research, MILP’s potential to elevate the efficiency and reliability of V2G systems is emphasized, underlining the importance of ongoing research for the development of resilient, sustainable energy infrastructures.
Dr. Choi Cheol Ho
Director of Research Institute, 60Hertz
